Config Editing Guardrail

  1. Read the current file first (JSONC-aware: // and /* */ allowed).
  2. Preserve everything unasked; add or modify only the requested keys.
  3. Validate syntax before writing; keep 2-space indent where applicable.
  4. Report what changed + whether reload/restart is needed.
  5. Never touch cached/internal keys unless asked (versions, auth caches, model pickers, one-time flags).
